Look Out, Renee Is Back!!

Despite her attempts to hide from most of us over this past Mardi Gras season,I have found my lovely bride of 33 plus years and dragged her back to the shop, now that her responsibilities as the Dame Commander of her Mardi Gras Krewe have terminated - forever! Now my biggest problem is dealing with her post traumatic stress disorder, as she is having nightmares about what could have gone wrong, but didn't. Just in case you are wondering, she did a great job and I am quite proud of her, I must admit. Now, however, on to bigger and better things---The Borne Quilter!

NATIONAL QUILT DAY---Saturday, March 20, 2010

I had no idea there was such a thing, but why not - another excuse for a SALE, weird activities and, of course, refreshments, at The Borne Quilter.

Okay, first things first - the SALE! As most of you who have been in the shop know, we have many.... bolts of fabric with "hang tags" on them--and I was just informed, many more to come. So, in an effort to pay for the medical bills which I incurred as a result of the carpal tunnel syndrome I am experiencing from placing those hang tags on the bolts of fabric:

Folks, it doesn't get much cheaper (excuse me, Renee, "less expensive") than that for these quality fabrics.

Regarding the weird activities, frankly, any sort of activity that takes place at The Borne Quilter can probably be classified as weird, including it's "krewe" members. I've seen a list of things that are in the planning stages and let's just say......

Finally, regarding the refreshments, let me put it this way - have we ever let you down?

New Inventory Galore!

Take a look at this sampling of new fabric:

Breath of Avignon from Moda. We have most of the fabric shown here, plus a few others. Renee tells me that it is very French Provencal. Frankly, I like it because even I can see the many varied colors. Oui, Oui!!

These are called "Dab of Jazz". Several additional colors are available for you to cut up and put back together - yea, quilters still amaze me.

For those of you who are into blue, try these on for size----and these are just the tip of the iceberg.

Renee tells me that these Batiks have been in the shop for about a month. I am convinced, however, that not very many of our friends have seen them. You see, they are located on one of the top shelves and most of our customers are, shall I say, vertically challenged. So, here is a smattering of them at eye level.

Do I need to say any more? Come on LSU TIGER FANS! We only have 5 bolts---finally, my bride is trying to follow the budget, but I think she should have bought less of those blues and more of these!

There is certainly a ton of more new fabric available (just ask my dwindling bank account). Way too much for me to even begin to talk about or for you to want to listen to. You owe it to yourself to come in and browse. If you don't, you are missing half of your life---and me, the other half!! (Remember, it's a joke.)

Beyond fabrics:

Although I do not have a picture of what I am about to talk about, not to worry, as I am sure you all have come to know what a great gift I have with words - yea, right! Well, here goes---

You know those red carts that we have in the shop that we (I) just love to see you fill up? We call them "Canton Carts" (the genesis of which is for us to know and you to find out). Well, we have our own supplier of them and we have several in the shop available for you, assuming Renee ever gets them out of the boxes.

While I have never been on a shop hop or a retreat or any other thing that you folks go on to cut up fine fabric, I am told that these carts are the absolute rage. Okay, I would have put an exclamation point after that last sentence, but, a cart is a cart is a cart, don't you think!!!

Anyway, we have several for purchase at $38.99 per cart. I am sure that you need one. If you need more than one, have your significant other call me and I'll tell him/her how sick you are.

A smattering of our new books:

"The perfect guide to making the most of the

latest strip rolls." Be bold, folks--unroll that bundle of jelly rolls that you've been looking at, but too afraid to do so, lest you have to figure out what to do with them. This book gives you more ideas than Carter's got pills (please don't ask me who Carter is, as I'll have to admit my age)

sew necessary "Everything necessary and fun for organizing your sewing space!" Here's just a sampling of what's in here - pincushion, catcherbag, scissor chatelaines, scissor fobs... I'm not going to continue, as I am tired of looking up these words in the dictionary and if I continue I'll never have the time to get this newsletter sent tonight. Looks to me like a pretty good craft book to make things for your quilting/sewing buddies.

Doll Clothes See, we are not just a quilt shop or a shop for grown ups.

Now, I must admit, when I saw this I said it had no business in a quilt shop. Then I read a little and found out that the designs for the doll clothes in this book are all based on fat quarters - can we ever accommodate that, or what! So, get some fat quarters and make some little girl think you are the best thing since sliced bread.

Last, but not least, examples of some of our new patterns:

Bella "This beautiful and unique dress by Izzy & Ivy has a gathered bodice , apron style over skirt and bow sash that can tie in the front or back. This sweet confection would make a lovely Easter or party dress for that sweet little girl in your life! Sizes 2-10."---

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!!

In case you have not noticed from the selection of patterns in the shop, Renee is an apron freak. The problem is, I have not found one that would look good on me, including this one. However, this one, while not in the running for me to wear at my next barbeque, would look pretty darn good on the right person- anyone female.

Oh, yeah, I almost forgot, we are a quilt shop, aren't we!! Yes, we do have new quilt patterns.

I am truly amazed at the number of fat quarters you folks buy. Well, here's a real cool "fat quarter friendly" new pattern.

Classes

Okay, folks, I'm tired and you are probably bored of reading. However, all of the current classes have been updated on the website. So, go to www.thebornequilter.com and click on the Classes button on the left and, voila, you'll see the class list. Click on the Calendar button and you'll see them, also. Click on other buttons at your own risk.

Seriously, all of the classes have been updated on the website. Knock yourself out!

On a purely personal note and in memory of my father-in-law

For those of you who have not heard, Renee's "Daddy" ("Pop-Pop" to his grandkids) died on Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2010, after a lengthy illness. I was privileged to know him and honored to be able to call his oldest daughter "my lovely bride of 33 years" and counting. Please keep him, Renee's mother,family and Renee in your prayers. All is well, as the healing process continues.

So, with all of the above said, remember---

"SEW + QUILT = CREATE!"
