RETRACTION!!!
AND ALSO A BIG MEA CULPA
Well, a big mistake was made in the last newsletter entitled "Thinking Cooler" regarding The Shop Hop Bus Tour, and I do apologize.
I stated that the price of $125 included dinner on Friday night. That is incorrect. It includes breakfast on Saturday morning at the hotel. The Friday night dinner was just an absolute brain cramp on my part, as when I was composing the newsletter I was thinking about where dinner would be that night. Sorry, folks, for the "faux pas".
Again, the price of $125 is for the bus, hotel on Friday night and breakfast at the hotel on Saturday morning. Dinner on Friday and lunch both days is Dutch Treat and arrangments are in the process of being made as to where that will be---sorry about that, folks. I am firing my editor!!

One more unrelated thing which Renee, my now ex-editor, wanted me to add in light of my having to send this "egg all over my face" newsletter. Jessie Comeaux of Morning Star Quilted Creations will be at the shop this coming Saturday, July 31, 2010. Remember, Jessie is the long arm quilter who visits the shop regularly and has done longarm quilting for several of our customers. So, if you have longarm work that you need done, you can visit with Jesse on Saturday. Call the shop for when she will be arriving.
Embarrassingly Yours,

Christmas in July
Summer is definitely going full steam (literally) ahead in south Louisiana and it's getting tougher and tougher to deal with it. Is this global warming or just old age catching up with me? Whatever it is, it's making me look forward to the fall and winter, which brings me to the primary focus of this newsletter - The Borne Quilter's version of Christmas in July, a/k/a, the debut of our 2010 Christmas fabric and patterns so that you folks can get to work on all of those Christmas projects/presents.
The short version is that this year's Christmas fabric is officially hitting the shelves on July 29, 2010, this coming Thursday. Here's a few pictures to make you want to jump start your creative juices. I picked just 4 from several collections. Trust me, however, Renee went ballistic in her buying and even I can tell that the colors work.
Here is what caught my eye on "Holidays at Home"--sorry, I had to shrink the pictures, so they are a little fuzzy.

"Woodland Holiday" is what this is called. These pictures do not even begin to do justice to the collection.

This next one is called "Making New Friends". I know, it appears the first one is upside down - just flip your monitor.

This collection is called "Noel". Thankfully, the fabric is a lot more dynamic than the name.

This one is called "Winter Medley". I really like the third one from the left. In case you can't tell, they are penguins. Thankfully, the fabric name gave it away-- "Blue Penguins". I did not know that penguins could fly!)

Of course, what would Christmas be without something called "The Twelve Days of Christmas"

Okay, so do you get it? This is only the tip of the iceberg, folks. Renee went bonkers over Christmas fabric and you all are the beneficiaries. Come on down and touch and feel---oh, I almost forgot---and buy!
Recognize these?
Of course you do----In connection with our 2010 Christmas fabric and patterns debut we will also have, back by popular demand, our already famous Mardi Gras Doubloon Pull Sale from July 29-31 (Thursday - Saturday).
For you novices out there, here is how it works. Depending upon the color of the doubloon which you will pull upon checking out, you will receive a discount on your purchase of regular priced merchandise, EXCLUDING 2010 Christmas merchandise.
The discount for which you will be pulling will range from 15-25% off regular priced merchandise, excluding 2010 Christmas merchandise. So, it's a given that you'll receive a 15% discount on all regular priced merchandise (excluding 2010 Christmas merchandise) and if you pull the right color doubloon you could receive as much as 25% off.
Oh, did I tell you that the Doubloon Pull Sale only applies to regular priced merchandise and excludes 2010 Christmas merchandise?
It's not too late to get in on the Christmas Block of the Month which started on July 15. This block of the month program runs for 6 months at a cost of $26.90 per month. For this price you will receive the patterns and all of the fabric for the quilt top and binding.
You will be using the Holidays at Home line of fabric and pattern and will end up with a 62" x 62" quilt, which will (hopefully) look like this:

Diane Redfearn, who made our shop sample, tells me that the fabric is quite "user friendly", as some of it is printed to look like it is pieced. So, it does not take as much wrist action with that "rolly" thing that you've heard me talk about in the past. Heck I just might try this one, using only the fabric that looks like it is pieced!
By the way, GREAT job, Diane, on the sample which is hanging in the shop. It looks better than the picture on the pattern!
"Boo-tiful" Fabric
(Halloween Fabric for those of you who don't get it)
Halloween usually brings some semi-cool weather down here, so this sort of goes with the theme of this newsletter. Some of you may have already seen this fabric while it was displayed in the classroom during our anniversary sale last month. For those of you have not, here's a smattering of what we have to offer to you:

Most of the fabrics pictured above come in several different "boo-tiful" colors so that you can really do a pot full of coordination, blending, mixing, matching, and whatever else it is that is done while cutting and piecing.

YES, DEAR!
[Warning: If you do not live within a reasonable distance of Lafayette, do not bother to read this - and I am serious!]
The last thing that I remember before I fell asleep last night on the sofa was Renee asking me to send a quick e-mail to the newsletter subscribers telling them about a fund raiser which is taking place today and tomorrow. This morning I woke up and realized that I had not done it, but knew that she would also not remember asking me to do it. At the very minimum, I knew that she would forgive me for not doing so, as I quickly kissed her goodbye----------NOT!
I was greeted at my day job this morning with an e-mail from her asking that I forward it to you folks. So, to make sure that my marriage survives another weekend, here it is:
Greetings Everyone!
I am participating in a Christmas in July Extravaganza Pre-Holiday Marketplace Friday and Saturday, July 23-24, in the Life Center at St. Pius X Church here in Lafayette. St. Pius X is located on Kaliste Saloom Road between Lippi Drive and East Bayou Parkway - 201 East Bayou Parkway is the official address for those of you who have a GPS system.
The Marketplace will be open from 7:00 am until 4:00 pm on both days (today and tomorrow) - that gives you 9 hours - 18 hours total - to shop a wide variety of vendors (25 total!) in air conditioned comfort.
We will also be selling sausage po-boys, red beans and rice and pork chop sandwiches at lunchtime - 11-1 or so. For dessert we have a Sweet Shoppe featuring home-baked goodies from a group of Church Ladies - nothing better! - and real Italian Ice. Are you hungry yet?
Your $5.00 admission fee will open the door to a wonderland of shopping delights. Children 12 years old and under are admitted free of charge.
This Christmas in July Extravaganza is a fund-raiser for the Pat Colbert-Cormier Education Foundation which funds Pat's Mission to Africa. Pat is a dear friend of mine from the St. Pius X Church Choir and a remarkable community leader. Her Foundation funds many worthwhile projects in villages in Senegal including digging water wells in villages that have no water source; painting and other repairs in the village school; educational scholarships for students who then promise to return to their village and teach. In addition, at the request of Pat's grandsons, 5% of the proceeds will be donated to the Miles Perret Center in honor of Pat's daughter, Dede, who is presently battling breast cancer.
Please consider coming by to support our cause and get a head start on your holiday shopping. Tell all of your friends and family! I look forward to seeing you there!
Renee
I hope she's happy, now!
