...Must Come to an End
It is with deep regret and sadness that I am writing to you today. As some of you may know, my late husband, Keith, and I opened The Borne Quilter in June of 2008 as a retirement job for him. He was an attorney, and he had become increasingly dissatisfied with the practice of law. He had for years been interested in starting a business, and I was always somehow involved in the daily operations of his “dream” businesses, despite my total lack of business experience. He finally hit upon the perfect idea, one that both intrigued him and that I actually knew something about! Thus, The Borne Quilter was born!
Everything went swimmingly for the first three years, as our customers increased and our business grew out of its space…twice! Then in the fall of 2011, disaster struck – Keith was diagnosed with stage four duodenal cancer. By the grace of God, and some wonderful co-workers, family, and friends – Janie, Denise, Diane, Brenda and Julie – the shop continued to run like a well-oiled machine, despite the fact that I was not there for about 5 months, as Keith battled the disease and I took care of him. We were so blessed! After Keith died, and even after I returned to the shop, those ladies took on a greater share of the work so that I was able to do just about everything that I needed or wanted to. I owe them a huge debt of gratitude that I will never be able to repay.
Recently, however, the burden of running the shop, helping with my grandchildren, and lately, taking over all of the financial obligations for the shop, have taken their toll on me. So, after much deliberation, soul searching, and prayer, I have decided to close The Borne Quilter. The prospect of not seeing and visiting with you all every day at the shop fills me with sadness, but the promise of a less stressful and confining life ahead gives me the hope of a happy, joyful future, with time to enjoy my children and grandchildren, to visit with my family, and to do all of the things that I love the most – including sewing and quilting! My greatest wish is that I will be able to share in that passion with as many of you as possible through guild meetings, quilt shows, and sew days. You all are part of my extended family, and I hope to have you in my life for many years to come!
I want to put your mind at ease on a few points. For those of you who are in the midst of our Mystery Quilt BOM, or who have purchased Handi Quilter machines from me – I will not leave you stranded! The Mystery Quilt BOM will proceed as planned – you will just pick up your clues at my house instead! I will continue to mail those that are mailed now. Handi Quilter owners, I will continue to service your machines and answer any questions you may have. My two shop email addresses will continue to be active, and you may contact me through either one at any time. I am not leaving you – I am just changing locations!
That being said, I now wish to give to you all a gift for being such wonderful, loyal customers over the past six and a half years. Beginning Tuesday, December 9, all merchandise at The Borne Quilter will be on sale! All non-sale items will be 30% off; all sale items will be an additional 15% off; and all clearance items will be an additional 10% off. There will be a one yard minimum cut on all fabrics – no exceptions. Come early for the best selection. Some of our Shop Samples will also be marked for sale, but those will not be discounted at the register. They are already priced to sell! At the moment I have no plans to sell any of the furnishings – if that changes, I will let you know. So keep watch for emails from me with updates and additions. In the meantime, my friends, continue to
Sew, Quilt, and Create!
Love and hugs,
