News Flash: The Borne Quilter will be closed Saturday, September 3, 2011, in celebration of Labor Day. We wish all of you a safe and happy holiday filled with family and friends. The shop will re-open on Tuesday, September 6, 2011.
Today, the Quilters Guild Acadienne welcomed renowned quilter, designer and author Ami Simms as the Guest Speaker at our monthly Guild meeting. What a wonderful and fun-filled presentation she gave! Ami had us doubled-over with laughter as she regaled us with her dramatic interpretation of How Not to Win a Blue Ribbon at a Quilt Show. She gave voice to all of the faux-pas that most of us have made (but might not want to admit!) as we evolved from beginner to accomplished quilters. Then Ami gave us her heart with the story of her mother's struggles with Alzheimer's, and how that pain moved her to create the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative (AAQI) which "has raised more than $576,000 since January, 2006" to "raise awareness and fund research" for Alzheimer's Disease. Follow this link to the AAQI website, www.alzquilts.org, to discover "33 Ways You Can Help", and a whole lot of other important information pertaining to this very worthwhile organization. Ami, it was a great pleasure to meet you, and thanks so much for coming!
Happy Labor Day, chers!
