Happy Labor Day!

30 Aug 2011

News Flash: The Borne Quilter will be closed Saturday, September 3, 2011, in celebration of Labor Day.  We wish all of you a safe and happy holiday filled with family and friends.  The shop will re-open on Tuesday, September 6, 2011.

Today, the Quilters Guild Acadienne welcomed renowned quilter, designer and author Ami Simms as the Guest Speaker at our monthly Guild meeting.  What a wonderful and fun-filled presentation she gave!  Ami had us doubled-over with laughter as she regaled us with her dramatic interpretation of How Not to Win a Blue Ribbon at a Quilt Show.  She gave voice to all of the faux-pas that most of us have made (but might not want to admit!) as we evolved from beginner to accomplished quilters.  Then Ami gave us her heart with the story of her mother's struggles with Alzheimer's, and how that pain moved her to create the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative (AAQI) which "has raised more than $576,000 since January, 2006" to "raise awareness and fund research" for Alzheimer's Disease.  Follow this link to the AAQI website, www.alzquilts.org, to discover "33 Ways You Can Help", and a whole lot of other important information pertaining to this very worthwhile organization.  Ami, it was a great pleasure to meet you, and thanks so much for coming!

Happy Labor Day, chers!

We survived Shop Hop!

24 Aug 2011

What an awesome Shop Hop we just had in Southeast Louisiana! Eight fabulous shops and over 200 eager Hoppers equals one spectacular weekend experience! Thanks to all of you who participated in making this event a huge success for all of us. Special thanks goes to Mrs. Terry Graham who once again was Bus Mom to our wonderful group of Shop Hoppers on Friday and Saturday. Can't wait until next year!
Congratulations go to Melina Michel from Pierre Part for winning our Shop Hop Gift Basket!  We hope you enjoy all of your new goodies, Melina!
If you haven't been by in a while, you are in for a nice surprise.  We have expanded into the space next door and the shop has a whole new look!  It is brighter, more spacious and even more customer friendly than before.  We look forward to seeing you all very soon.
Have a great evening!

Summertime......

13 Jun 2011

....and the quilting is easy!  Yes, summer is definitely here in southwest Louisiana, folks, and I am relishing my time indoors with my air conditioner!  Monday is my errand-and-catch-up-with-the-house day and after 5 hours of running around in and out of the car I am so happy to be sitting at my kitchen counter in the cool-th!

Summer is a great time to play catch-up on all of the things that you have put on hold because of other commitments.  School is out, graduation and dance recitals are over, and ... now what?  Here's an idea - dig out some of your unfinished quilt projects and work on one or two.  Or find that great quilt pattern in your favorite magazine, pull out some fabrics from your stash and create a new family heirloom or snuggle quilt for that special child.

Can't find any inspiration at home?  I may be able to help you with that.  This Saturday, June 18, we are starting a new quilting club, the Stash Pot Pie Club.  On the third Saturday of each month you will meet at the shop with fabrics chosen from your stash for a day-long sew-in.  Denise Domingue, one of our educators, will direct the fun, and when you leave you will have created a beautiful new quilt!  And reduced your stash!  Sounds like fun?  Then call or come by the shop for details - it is not too late to join.

Summer and sewing - a match made in heaven!  Have a great day and stay cool!

A Sad Day

20 May 2011

It is with great sadness that we tell you all that our dear friend and colleague, Janie Arey Eschete, lost her mother, Frances Arey Smith, last evening. Mrs. Frances suffered from Alzeimer's Disease and has been living at a local assisted living facility so that Janie could take care of her. Our prayers are with her and her family as they go through this difficult time. They will bring her back to her home town in Texas for burial. Please pray for Janie and her family. Thank you.
